Headless CMS for Mithril.js

Hygraph is the ideal Headless CMS for Mithril.js websites and applications. Read further to learn how our API-first CMS allows you to add components to your Mithril.js apps in minutes and enable your website's content to be managed from a powerful CMS.

Step #1 - Fetching data from a GraphQL API in Mithril.js

To fetch data from a GraphQL API in a Mithril.js application, you can use JavaScript's native fetch API. Below is a code block demonstrating how to fetch data from a GraphQL endpoint, followed by another code block that shows how to use this data to construct a view using Mithril's hyperscript syntax.

import m from 'mithril';
// Define the GraphQL query
const QUERY = `
query {
someData {
id
name
// ... other fields
}
}
`;
// Function to fetch data from the GraphQL API
function fetchData() {
return m.request({
method: "POST",
url: "https://your-graphql-endpoint.com/graphql",
headers: {
"Content-Type": "application/json"
},
body: {
query: QUERY
}
});
}

Step #2 - Using the fetched data in Mithril.js with Hyperscript

The DataComponent uses the fetchData function to retrieve the data when the component initializes (oninit lifecycle method). The data is then stored in the component's state. In the view function, we check if the data is available; if not, we display a loading message. Once the data is available, it is mapped over to create a list of items, each represented by a div. This part utilizes the hyperscript syntax to create DOM elements dynamically based on the fetched data.

import m from 'mithril';
// Component to display data
const DataComponent = {
oninit: function(vnode) {
fetchData().then(data => {
vnode.state.data = data;
});
},
view: function(vnode) {
if (!vnode.state.data) {
return m('div', 'Loading...');
}
return m('div',
vnode.state.data.someData.map(item =>
m('div',
m('h2', item.name),
// ... other elements
)
)
);
}
};
// Mount the component to the DOM
m.mount(document.body, DataComponent);

Why Hygraph

Choosing Hygraph for your Mithril.js project

Integrating a GraphQL-native headless CMS with a Mithril.js application offers substantial benefits for both developers and content editors. For developers, the GraphQL-native approach streamlines data fetching, allowing for precise and efficient queries tailored to the exact needs of the Mithril.js app, thereby reducing over-fetching and under-fetching of data.

For content editors, a headless CMS provides a user-friendly interface to manage content without worrying about the underlying implementation. This separation of concerns means content can be updated independently of the app's UI/UX, enabling a more agile content strategy and quicker updates.
